Viola F. Kueker, 93, of Sumner, died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner with Rev. Michael Christie officiating. Interment will follow at Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 30th at the United Methodist Church in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made in Viola’s name to SEMS or the United Methodist Church in Sumner.
Viola Fern Dodd was born October 3, 1924, on a farm near Whitten, Iowa in Grundy County. She was the only child of Stella Price Dodd and James Franklin Dodd. She lived on her birthplace until she was eleven years of age. The family then moved to Dike and lived there for four years prior to purchasing a farm near Westgate. After two years, they sold their farm and moved into the town of Sumner. Viola graduated with the Class of 1943 in Sumner. She taught country school for one year, worked as a bookkeeper at the Alta Vista Bank, the Sumner Bakery, Hammel’s Grocery Store and Waskow’s Grocery Store. On May 20, 1951, she was united in marriage with Erhardt Kueker, at the church that was formerly the United Brethren in Sumner. Four children were born to this union, Wendall, Larry, Darwin, and Helen. Viola was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner, United Methodist Women, Crochet Club (which she started). She enjoyed crochet, cross stitch, plastic canvas, loved cook books and cooking, crossword puzzles, flowers, and gardening.
Viola is survived by her three children, Wendall (Diane Weltner) Kueker of Sumner, Darwin (Diane) Kueker of Cresco, and Helen Elaine Kueker of Sumner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erhardt who died in 1982; her son, Larry who died in 1956; parents; and one stillborn sister, Helen Elaine.
